How do you know if your property has a compliant and safe pool fence?
Evidence suggests that a large number of drowning deaths in pools are as a result of fencing that is faulty or non-compliant with Australian Standards. In Western Australia, rental property residents are at greater risk of experiencing a backyard pool drowning.
A guide to backyard pool safety has been developed as part of a campaign by the Swimming Pool and Spa Association of WA, Royal Life Saving Society WA and REIWA. It is designed to provide pool safety information and advice to assist you with responding to your obligation to monitor barrier compliance.
In WA regulations require each local government to ensure all private swimming pools are inspected every four years. The purpose of the inspection is to monitor whether legislation, codes and standards are being complied with in regards to the pool safety barriers.
