Swimming pools are so last season according to a new survey from finder.com.au, revealing what homebuyers really have on their wish lists.
Out of the 1043 people surveyed the top five most important items on the shopping list for homebuyers are as follows:
- Air conditioning (65 per cent of respondents)
- Carport or garage (60 per cent)
- Backyard (52 per cent)
- Solar panels (33 per cent)
- Outdoor entertaining area (24 per cent)
To achieve a high selling price, homes really need to have air conditioning, a backyard and undercover parking, which have the highest importance to house-hunters.
With our sweltering summers, many now see air conditioning as an essential inclusion in their home. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data, 75 per cent of Australian households have air conditioning.
In second place, a garage or carport (60 per cent) is seen as far more important than a garden (52 per cent).
Away from the more expected results, “green” features are growing in popularity, with modern house-hunters prioritising solar panels over swimming pools. As the price of electricity rises, the presence of solar panels is paramount for one in three buyers, according to the survey. ABS figures show that solar panels are being used by 14 per cent of all households. In addition, water restrictions and the cost of maintaining a swimming pool don’t help its popularity.
